Tucked away in a lovely village, ten miles from Exeter, a magical little pub that sings out to walkers & foodies alike. Local ciders delight

From its fetching thatch to its inventive menus, the Ring of Bells hits the right note every time. Part of a row of cottages tucked away down a narrow lane, the Grade II listed building has bags of character and a super-friendly atmosphere, thanks to Binka, David and their team. The food menu is short but exciting. The quality of the cooking here puts grander establishments to shame. A wood burner chases away chills in winter; you can tuck yourself into a corner with a pint of local cider and a ploughman's, or take a seat at one of the glowing tables where settings sparkle and menus tempt. Our pheasant skewers with miso marinade and baby gem were wonderfully light, followed by wild mallard with wild rice and kale, and delicious duck scotch eggs. Dog walkers and ramblers love it here, and so will you.

"We go to "The Ringer" regularly not because it's close, but because it can't be beaten for ambiance, friendliness, value for money and above all, their brilliant menu. Binx is a great Hostess and remembers her guests, their preferences and foibles. She also has an interesting wine list at very good prices. Try the Auberge nights on Tuesdays for a really great value and interesting set menu. "

"You can add The Ring of Bells in Cheriton Fitzpaine on page 69 of the new pub guide as being veggie friendly. It was our wedding anniversary and we were seduced by the "inventive menus" so booked a table here for a celebratory evening meal. Oh my goodness. My starter was: Aubergine and Sorrel emulsion, popped butter beans and flatbread. My mains was: Artichoke heart with pearl barley, preserved lemon beurre blanc and fennel and courgette salad. Inventive and very tasty. "

" We've recently moves into the village. The Ring of Bells has never served us a poor meal or pint! Delighted to have such a quality eating place close enough to walk home from. Binka and David are fine hosts and nothing is too much trouble for them. Auberge Night is a weekly eating bonanza of fresh ideas and allows Dave suprise us with great seasonal dishes. You need to book!!! Honesty. . . Come and see. You certainly won't be disappointed. "
