Just minutes from Bath is this enchanting space. Grand walking, a very rural feel, lovely views and a warm welcome for 2-4 plus your dog

Read guest comments

The views stretch all the way to the Brecon Beacons on a clear day, but Bath is just five miles away and the park and ride a twenty-minute walk or five-minute car ride. You’ll feel happy when you walk in: all is light, bright and airy with rugs and a log burner to warm you on chilly evenings.

Cooks will be pleased with the niftily-equipped kitchen and a dresser filled with pretty china – eat outside on your balcony surrounded by geraniums in pots or at a handsome oak table by the fire. Sleep in a well-dressed bed unruffled by any noise; a warm bathroom has a big shower and thick towels. Friendly owner Jane, who lives down the road, is a keen and talented gardener – interested guests may arrange to visit her one and a half acres.

There are walks galore – 30 minutes to the pub, acres of woodland to explore and the Cotswold Way right on the doorstep but many guests just stay put.

  • The Workshop lies in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and right on the Cotswold Way. Turn right for stunning 180 degree views over the Severn valley as far as the Welsh Hills. Or turn left and walk the 80 miles to Oxfordshire if you feel like it!
  • The Georgian city of Bath is 10 minutes by car but better is the park and ride a mile away - a half hour stroll or a few minutes drive. Visit the Roman Baths, relax at the hot water Spa or wander round the World Heritage City itself.
  • In less than an hour by car you are deep within the Cotswolds . Visit bustlingTetbury for antiques and Cirencester a pretty Cotswold town. Bristol is 12 miles. Take a Banksy tour or stroll along the river via the Arnolfini to the SS Great Britain.
  • Walk in the National Arboretum at Westonbirt and visit any number of National Trust properties and gardens. Laycock with its abbey and gardens is delightful and nearby Dyrham Park is a must. It has gorgeous gardens, beautiful parkland and a good cafe !
  • You're a pretty 40 min walk from the local village of Upton Cheyney for lunch and a pint. Or to the Charlcombe Inn. 25 mins walk. There are two local pubs to drive to with good food. The Hare and Hounds and The Cross House. All welcome dogs
  • Or why not simply stay at home among the trees and the birdsong. We have a lovely garden and you're welcome to look round so do ask. And there is the Oak House, a romantic cabin for two in the woods-see Sawday's Canopy and Stars website for details.

"We really enjoyed every minute of our 3 day stay at The Workshop. We got to properly relax and unwind. The Workshop has everything you need for a comfortable stay including a well equipped kitchen, heated towel rails and a cosy log burner - all the little touches that make a big difference. We would definitely recommend this lovely place to friends and family and look forward to staying again. Zoe and Elliot Pearson. "

"We knew we were going to relax and enjoy our stay at The Workshop as soon as we walked through the door. This charming and cosy cabin in the woods provided us with a comfortable base from which to visit our son in Bath as well as a quiet spot to recharge our batteries.. It is tastefully decorated throughout with thoughtful touches that made us feel very much at home.. A truly lovely place to stay. I'm sure we will return. "

"The Workshop was not only larger than anticipated but more elegant, more stylish, more tasteful and more welcoming. Warm with the atmosphere of an intriguing history - the decor and furnishings are quirky and comfortably rustic but it's also practically equipped to an excellent standard. Utterly idyllic - and best - the tranquil bedroom with its huge, plush, snuggly, comfy bed. The sheets crisp and white, the walls and bedclothes a calm, reposeful shade of duck egg blue. Truly heavenly. Jane was helpful, kind, thoughtful and welcoming. The Workshop is at the top of my 'must return to' list!"

"We spent 4 nights in the workshop at the end of January whilst visiting Bath and the surrounding countryside. It was a delight to return back each day to the extremely comfortable workshop, with the cosy log burner and great facilities for self catering - in fact it proved hard to leave! Thanks to Jane for her great hospitality - we will be back in nicer weather to make the most of the views! "

"We stayed at The Workshop for 3 nights from 2nd December. The Workshop is quietly situated, comfortable, well equipped, thoughtfully decorated and provided a first class place to stay to enable us, primarily, to visit Bath Christmas Market. It was a swift journey to the park and ride thence to Bath itself via a 20 minute coach ride. In addition to Bath, there is so much to visit in the surrounding area, yet The Workshop provides a bolthole away from the bustle. We would recommend The Workshop to anyone who likes, peace, comfort and a superb view. "

"The Workshop is worth staying in just for the view! You will not be disappointed, even on a dull winter's day or after dark, when an illuminated Bristol holds its own beauty. The Workshop really is a peaceful and cosy retreat, with a well appointed kitchen and a comfy bed. Definitely choose this place if you would like to visit Bath and Bristol, but also want to escape to the country at the end of the day for some peace, and a good book by the fire. "

"I arrived at The Workshop in early November full of the stresses of working life and left a week later revitalized, reinvigorated and largely regretful that I had to leave such a lovely house and place. Its a perfect retreat, immersed in all of the beauty of the Somerset countryside, yet minutes from characterful Bath. The only taxing moments coming from deciding whether to eat out, or cosy-in and make use of the lovely property the owner (Jane) was attentive and helpful but never intrusive - an excellent host indeed! I hope you enjoy your time there as much as I did. I will certainly be back"

"We had a lovely 3 night stay at The Workshop - really peaceful location in woodland, but only 5 mins drive to the Park and Ride for Bath, and to the Hare and Hounds pub for delicious food! Great walking from the front door too, with far reaching views over Bath and Bristol. Really enjoyed our cosy cabin with the logburner - thanks Jane for a lovely stay! "

"The Workshop was the highlight to the end of a month back in England. From awesome to wonderful, The Workshop is a place to forget about work. The Roman Baths of Bath were there, so we had to visit. When in Rome as they say... Restaurants abound. The street food outside the Abbey was as good as you’ll find. It’s also worth pointing out that the photos of The Workshop interior, unlike those of many other “cottages” for two, don’t involve deceptive super wide-angle lens shots. As spacious as it looks, if not more so! Terrific kitchen for holiday accommodation. Sharp knives! Highly recommended."

"My husband and I loved our stay at the workshop. It was beautiful, peaceful and clean. Exactly what we needed. Great location for visiting Bath or just hanging out and enjoying the fields and hills. Jane was a wonderful host. We can't wait to return. "

"Thank you so much Jane for our fabulous holiday. The Workshop was wonderful, the perfect place to be, all the little finishing touches were so clever and very much appreciated. An amazing find, so peaceful and yet so close to Bath, just a few minutes to the centre, and even closer to the park and ride. We will definately be back. Thanks again Susan and Simon"

"The Workshop was an ideal base for us to explore Bath and the surrounding area. The nearby park and ride provided a relaxing and convenient route into the heart of Bath. There are plenty of footpaths nearby with several pubs along the way. The accommodation was stylishly finished, providing space and comfort. Jane was a great host. We look forward to returning soon. "What a beautiful and relaxing place to stay. A very warm welcome and lots of information available. Amazing views as far as the Malvern Hills. The Workshop is beautifully decorated and well equipped. Comfortable beds, wood burner, warm and cosy. We couldn't have asked for more. A radio to keep in touch with the outside world if you should want to! Off the beaten track but an easy drive into Bath, or even better it's very close to the park and ride. Lots of country walks around. Highly recommended, we would love to go back. "
