Peacocks Fine B&B - Bed & Breakfast in Cambridgeshire
65 Waterside, Ely, CB7 4AU, Cambridgeshire
England,
Reino Unido
Above their popular riverside tearoom in the heart of Ely, George and Rachel have created two suites with all the trimmings: robes, chocolates, your own sitting room and (of course) a huge selection of teas.
Breakfast is served by the Aga - a refreshing change from the usual full English: try granola, fruit, yogurt and maple syrup, savoury crumpets with cream cheese and salmon, Croque Madame, brie and bacon on toasted half-rye bread, or omelettes with a variety of fillings.
Browse the nearby antique centre, visit the cathedral, explore Cambridge and the Fens, stroll out for dinner. Make sure to leave time for a tearoom treat though - soups, lunches, cakes, 70 different kinds of tea - and for chatting to The Peacocks, who are friendly, humorous hosts.

Local points of interest from Rachel Peacock:
Puntos de interés sobre la región de
Rachel Peacock:
- We overlook the slipway where the main street starts to climb up from the river towards the town centre and the magnificent Cathedral. For hundreds of years from when Ely was an island in the fens this spot was one of the main commercial hubs of the town
- Within a few minutes’ walk you will find a good choice of pubs and restaurants. Next door is East Anglia’s largest antiques centre. Picturesque traffic-free footpaths outside the door lead you out into the fenland countryside or through parks up into town
- Ely centres on the vast and magnificent medieval Cathedral: the tour around the roof is amazing. Good family shops, restaurants and businesses survive here & book lovers mustn’t miss Toppings in the High Street – one of the best bookshops in the country
- We are in the driest part of Britain with less rain fall on average than Beirut, Rome, Sydney or New York! Even in winter the climate tends to be mild. One of the downsides is that we rarely get enough frost to be able to skate on the river!
- Ely is a good base for exploring East Anglia, whether by car or train. Cambridge with its colleges and museums is close by, as is Newmarket - the 'Home of Horseracing'. The lovely villages & beaches of Suffolk & Norfolk are all within reach for a day out.
- Nature lovers will enjoy Wicken Fen and the Wildfowl reserve at Welney. The National Trust maintains fine properties including Anglesey Abbey, Peckover House and Ickworth. London, barely an hour away by train, seems a world away.
