Backwood Hall East Wing - Self-catering house in Cheshire
Boathouse Lane
Parkgate, Neston, CH64 3SZ, Cheshire
England,
Reino Unido
Backwood Hall dates from 1840 and is in the heart of a 300-acre estate with uninterrupted views of the Dee Estuary and the hills of North Wales. While it feels quiet and secluded you’re not remote; Chester, Liverpool and Manchester are in easy driving distance.
Sandra and Jim are keen for their guests to love staying here. Open fires in the dining room and sitting room keep things cosy, or if it’s sunny you can have a picnic on the rolling lawns in front of the house or play tennis – there’s stabling for horses too.
You can cook together and eat at the large kitchen table or the formal dining room or walk 15 minutes to the Boat House in Parkgate RSPB Nature Reserve to watch wildlife activity on the marshland while you eat. The lovely coastal town of Parkgate is a 20-minute walk mostly through the estate, and you can stock up at Heswall, a ten-minute drive away.

Local points of interest from Sandra Harris:
Puntos de interés sobre la región de
Sandra Harris:
- Explore historical Parkgate, a short stroll from the farm. Once a thriving sea port where Lord Nelson had meetings with Lady Hamilton prior to sailing to Ireland.A jumble of Georgian buildings now housing many excellent pubs and restaurants.
- The salt marsh bordering the farm is now an RSPB nature reserve, attracting twitchers from far and wide. So bring your binoculars and cameras! Or get on the water at West Kirby's Marine Lake. Great for dinghy or wind surfer. Courses available.
- For the more active, the Wirral Way can be reached directly from the farm. You can walk or cycle along it or ride on the adjoining bridleway for miles in either direction. So bring your bicycle or even your horse. Full livery is available on site.
- Fancy a game of tennis on our court, overlooking the Dee Estuary. Or golf? With over 10 courses, the Wirral is a mecca for golfing. Heswall golf course adjoins the farm and nearby is Royal Liverpool at Hoylake, venue for the 2014 Open Championship.
- Within easy driving distance are, Ness Botanical Gardens, Liverpool's magnificent waterfront (a world heritage site), the historic walled city of Chester and Snowdonia National Park. Or for shopaholics, Cheshire Oaks and Liverpool One.
- Simply chill out in the peaceful luxury of the Wing.
