There are five inhabited islands here and many more that are completely empty, ranging from a jagged rock when the tide is in to beautiful sleek sand spits and your own little empire when it is out. Beach combers, adventurers, boat lovers and sea swimmers will find much to be happy about.
The hotel food is stunning, most bedrooms face that sea view and the staff are the friendliest. You'll find the family's modern art collection on the walls of the sitting room, including a Barbara Hepworth. Have a drink and an amuse bouche here before heading for the sea-facing dining room - try and time supper with the sunset.
Splash in the pool, wander along the lanes to discover honesty shops selling honey, homemade fudge and fresh veg, an art gallery or two, cafes and a little post office that sells everything. Boats go to other islands most days - ten minutes to Tresco for the tropical gardens, a bit further to St Mary's which is livelier.

- Hell Bay Hotel is situated on the smallest of the inhabited islands on Scilly. Only 80 people permanently live here.
- Besides the hotel there is also a pub, cafe, art gallery and a well stocked island shop. Honestly stall selling fudge or local produce are located around this island. The fudge stall is always worth a check out with the unusual flavour created.
- On a peaceful day there's nothing better than hiring a small boat with out board from Bennett Boat Hire and going to explore the neighbouring uninhabited island of Samson. Picnics can be arrange from our kitchen.
- Bryher is just a 5 minute boat journey away from Tresco. On Tresco you can visit the world famous Tresco Abbey Gardens, well worth a visit with a vast range from plants from around the world growing here.
- If you visit the islands during the summer months, try and visit our evening pop up crab shack. Using only local crab caught from the waters around Bryher. Its so popular it sells out weeks before so book early!
