The Cottage at Halzephron House - Self-catering in Cornwall
Gunwalloe, Helston, TR12 7QD, Cornwall
England,
Reino Unido
This has to be one of the most spectacular spots on Cornwall's south coast, with sweeping views over green fields down to the sea and the little coves that dot the coastline – walkers, peace-seekers and nature lovers will be bowled over. The sitting room has a huge picture window so on a stormy, blustery day you'll be very happy to play a game or read a book by the fire while the drama goes on outside. The kitchen is plenty big enough for all and you're left a little welcome pack.
On warm days you can loll in the gardens from which you can see all the way to Porthleven in one direction and to Church Cove in the other. Immediately outside the door is a neat gravel and grass area with a picnic table and a separate lawn at the front for children or dogs to let off steam. You can join the Coast Path here too or head to many beaches, cafés and pubs on foot.
Bedrooms are sweet and simple, one up above the sitting room on a mezzanine.

- Perfect for the outdoors, the beach, the coast path, surfing, fishing and boating, the area is also packed with gardens and sculpture parks. Golf at Mullion Golf Club, surfing lessons at Poldhu beach and horse-riding at Newton stables are all close by.
- It's just a short drive away to see Britain’s most southerly, Lizard Point. You can see the Lighthouse, eat at Polpeor cafe, spot seals or for those seeking more thrills, book a day out coasteering or sea kayaking.
- Across to the Helford River, the Ferryboat Inn serves fabulous food, and the sub-tropical gardens of Glendurgan and Trebah are worth a visit. Closer still are the stunning Bonython Garden.
- St Ives is a must-see destination, packed with galleries, shops, places to eat as well as beautiful beaches and The Tate. Get there early to avoid the traffic or use the shuttles. Or stop at Penzance and the picture perfect Michael’s Mount on the way.
- For Game of Throne and Poldark fans, Halzephron sits between many filming locations. Dwight Eny's, St Winwalloe on Church Cove and Dollar Cove; scene of many a shipwreck and still a favourite hunting spot for treasure from the 1676 Spanish galleon.
- Visit Kynance Cove at low tide to see the double sided beach. There's a National Trust café and incredible rock formations, and is frequently voted one of the best beaches in the world.
