A vine-clad stone house hideaway for lovers, walkers, artists and hermits with a sweet veranda overlooking woodland down to the river

Originally the Smithy for the Okel Tor Mining Company, this dear little house has been nicely renovated. You're kept cosy with double glazing and a wood-burning stove, there is plenty of squishy seating and the tiny kitchen has some basics for cooking and all the kit you need to make supper. You'll also find some local snacks waiting for you.

You can sit on the covered veranda to read a book even when it's raining and the views are stupendous – early morning river mist will be romantic, and don't forget binoculars as the birdlife is pretty spectacular too. The calming bedroom has a super-comfy bed and good linen and you can see that view through the window. Join public footpaths down through the woods to the river; a short walk will take you into the village or to a couple of pubs.

This is the place to come if you want to paint, write, enjoy nature and the river. Or simply to be alone with your beloved – and your dog.
