A chilled, family-friendly hotel on a sandy surfing beach with huge views and a sensational pool

Grab a surfboard: this hotel kits you out to ride the waves with the Wavehunters at the Extreme Academy surf school. But you can still lounge around, and if you have kids, it’s a treat; young children can make friends in the popular Kids' Zone while you disappear for a massage, a swim, long lunch or late dinner.

It’s all about the views here, with walls of glass in The Living Space (a huge café/bar), a 25-metre infinity pool that gazes over the ocean, and a terrace strewn with loungers. This large hotel sits directly above one of the best sandy beaches in Britain - two miles long. There's a large ocean room to head home to with an open fire, a sauna and cliff-top hot tub with stunning views, and food that’s fresh and delicious. Eat in the bar or Zacry's the grill, or it’s only 50 paces to the The Beach Hut for a burger.

Gaze out to the Atlantic Ocean from the beach loft rooms and sea view suites. The family suites have separate bunk rooms for children and The Village apartments have their own kitchens and open-plan lounges. Many of the bedrooms are dog-friendly.

  • It’s a place that’s all about the balance of life; being active, getting amongst the elements, eating and drinking well, spoiling yourself a little, chilling out, getting cosy and most of all having a good time.
  • Watergate Bay is a real foodie destination with four different places to eat. The Beach Hut is right on the sand, while The Living Space and Zacry's are in the hotel. Emily Scott Food is serving up hyper-local dishes sits right on the sea wall too.
  • The Watergate Bay Hotel is right next to Watergate Bay, a two-mile stretch of sandy beach, popular with surfers and kite surfers. Wavehunters at the Extreme Academy surf school hires kit and teaches surfing and stand up paddle boarding.
