Nestled next to the main house, this feels part cottage and part townhouse, making a cosy retreat just a couple of miles from the coast

The annexe is set slightly behind the owners' house so you won't feel overlooked. French doors open out from the dining room onto a small sunny patio with a table and chairs, but you are welcome to explore the rest, along with woodland carpeted with primroses, daffodils and bluebells in spring. Deer are frequent visitors as are owls and sparrow hawks.

Antique furniture sits alongside eclectic artwork and the whole house has a comfortable, relaxing feel. The kitchen is large enough for two to cook together and you'll find seasonal veg from the walled garden, homemade chutney and jam, fresh eggs from Annie's hens and a bottle of wine. The two bedrooms are on separate floors and both have sash windows for good views, plump beds and high ceilings.

You're firmly in the countryside and walks from the door will take you through gentle hills and woodland filled with birdsong and the odd rumbling tractor. The sea is just out of sight.

Dartmouth is only 4 miles away but Bowden is a rural gem nestling in a beautiful valley, a mile from Blackpool Sands with its child friendly amenities, organic cafe and Blue Flag beach.
Easy access to many points along the South West Coastal Path, ranging from beautiful shingle and sandy beaches to rugged coastline vistas.
Walk up the Dart to enjoy pub lunches at Dittisham or Tuckenhay; or motor up the river as far as Totnes for beautiful river views.
Enjoy vintage steam train rides from Kingswear to Paignton via Agatha Christie's Greenway House (National Trust) or from Totnes up to Buckfastleigh, gateway to Dartmoor and its wild moorland.
Totnes has an enviable foodie scene with many independent cafés, shops and weekly markets.
Nearby Dartmouth with its castle, museum, ferries across the river and varied shops and cafês is a vibrant hub, with annual Food and Music Festivals and of course the famous, Royal Regatta.
