Families, couples, walkers, dogs – all are welcome on the family estate, rich in tradition and peace. Views to Dartmoor

Little wonder the Fursdon family has farmed here for so many generations. It’s beautiful – hugged by glorious Devon countryside near Exeter. Stroked by flowers, wisteria and sunshine, the mellow stone gardener’s cottage rests privately in a 750-acre estate.

Wake in a big, bright bedroom to vast views and a dawn chorus. Climb the private terraced garden and flop under a sweet chestnut with a glass of something cool. Relax inside by the log-burner, or in a quiet snug with plenty of armchairs.

This place was made for lovers of the great outdoors, with space for muddy boots and well-behaved dogs. Stroll to iron-age Cadbury Castle, discover quaint villages, farm shops, foodie pubs and revel in the Fursdon history: on Open Days, you can tour the manor and family museum.

Local points of interest from Emily Fursdon:

Puntos de interés sobre la región de
Emily Fursdon:

  • Fursdon Cottage has the most spectacular views & there are lots of walks across the estate, right from the front door! We'll give you lots of information in your folder about where's good to walk (with or without the dog).
  • Families love it here and there is lots to entertain kids locally, from the famous Bickleigh Railway Centre to the brilliant Ramm Museum in Exeter, as well as cycle trails, Clip 'n' Climb, water sports and some excellent family-friendly restaurants.
  • Fursdon is brilliantly situated for exploring Devon and its amazing array of beaches. We have lots of favourites and can recommend ones for food, views, waves, bustle, peace - whatever you want really; we are truly spoilt for choice!
  • Exeter's history is longer than Fursdon's! The 11th century Cathedral is a must and in Nov & Dec there is an open air Market on the Cathedral Green. Red Coat guides offer walking tours of all the best and most historic areas.
  • Dartmoor with its Tors is wonderful but try exploring Exmoor, where the heather topped moors, rivers and valleys tumble down to the dramatic north coast. A little further west it settles down to the sandy surfing beaches of Saunton, Croyde and Woolacombe.
  • As well as Fursdon's own historic house which is open in the summer, there are two lovely National Trust houses within a 20-minute drive: Killerton House, with its lovely costume displays and Knightshayes Court, with its Gothic splendour.
