This is just the ticket for getting outdoors with rural views, plenty of birdlife, wild ponies, a chalk stream to muck about in and a bridge for Pooh sticks. Walking is superb, either inland up onto the moor or on the Coast Path from Porlock Weir – a spectacular stretch leading you through forests and waterfalls. Return to a large, beamed sitting room with plenty of room for all to sit, a wood-burner, games, cards and books. A separate 'snug' is grand for escapees.
The kitchen is a happy place to cook, warmed by a range cooker and with a big wooden table for helpers, chatterers, or those tackling a jigsaw. From here there are doors onto the south-facing terrace, a lawn big enough for sprawling or games and a wood shed with extra logs – have a go at splitting them if you like.
Bedrooms have well-dressed beds and deep window sills for gazing. The bathroom is big with a proper bath and there's an extra loo and shower downstairs.

- Walk down to Porlock Weir for a well-earned drink and meal at the Ship Inn. Relax by the open fireplaces and soak up centuries of atmosphere. This joins on to stretches of the South West Coast path - with fantastic coastal scenery.
- A short drive away is the National Trust beauty spot of Watersmeet. Drop by for a walk by the thundering waters and a coffe/cream tea at the National Trust cafe next to it. Or reward yourself with a pub lunch afterwards at the Blue Ball at Countisbury.
- Have a local night out in Lynton at the quirky little cinema, proceeded by tapas at The Oak Room.
- Not far away you have Tarr Steps en route to a morning out in Dulverton - full of second hand book shops, sweet little cafes and antique stores.
- The cottage has lots of books on local attractions -and plenty of OS maps to give inspiration for places to visit or walk to.
