A 1930s riverside cabin circled by lush gardens; cosy inside with underfloor heating, glowing wood-burner and gorgeous decor

Bump down the lane, cross a stone bridge and skip over the stepping stones to slide open the glass doors of this bright riverside cabin, perched above a private stretch of the river Avon. It's utterly peaceful here, with only the chatter of birds and burbling river to break the silence. Arrive to a riot of colour in summer and carpets of bluebells in spring; it's cosy and snug year round.

Inside, muted colours and natural fabrics set off interesting artefacts, repurposed antiques, family heirlooms and original art by owner Miranda. Floor-to-ceiling windows in the cosy sitting room draw your eyes to the river and it's relaxing to lie in your kingsize bed on linen sheets with a morning cuppa gazing outside and planning your day. Perhaps a riverside walk or a trip to boaty Salcombe or arty Totnes.

Return to prep dinner in the smart kitchen, barbecue on the terrace, swing in the hammock or cosy up with a hot choc in front of the wood-burner.
