The Stables at Coombe Farm Goodleigh - Self-catering cottage in Devon
Goodleigh, Barnstaple, EX32 7NB, Devon
England,
Reino Unido
Walk through the entrance hall in to a big, light living space with an open-plan kitchen, lovely views from an L-shaped sofa, interesting art on the walls and wide doors to the terrace – on warmer days you’ll eat out here, or maybe have a barbecue, with views over the garden to open countryside. There’s a little stream you can walk down to for paddling, a lawn for games and an enclosed swimming pool you may use.
Owners Lisa and Matt leave you a selection of locally-made goodies – cider, fudge, biscuits, all the basics for cooking and fresh flowers from the garden. You may also be treated to eggs from their hens. Lisa is a serious cook so you’ll find everything from a salad spinner to a rolling pin and a pestle and mortar. On cooler days, help yourself to logs for the wood-burner – the first basket is free.
A 15-minute walk will take you to a good pub and you can stock up in Barnstaple which has an excellent butcher and deli.

- Just a short stroll through the woods along the public footpath that runs through our farm you will find the New Inn at Goodleigh. The food is fantastic and Justin and Julia are wonderful hosts. Wellies can be provided.
- A few miles up the road and you will be at the edge of Exmoor National park where there are wonderful moorland and coastal walking opportunities and plenty of lovely pubs. We have an intimate knowledge of the area and can provide advice and OS maps.
- Along the North Devon coast there are many spectacular beaches including Croyde, Saunton Sands, Woolacombe and Putsborough. Great for walking or surfing. As a keen surfer Matt can offer you some advice should you need it.
- Right from the farm gate there are endless cycling opportunities. Climbing onto Exmoor or onto the Tarka Trail which is the longest dedicated cycle way in the country. The Tarka trail runs to Braunton or Torrington and is easy cycling free from traffic.
- The Royal Horticultural Society garden Rosemoor is at Torrington, about 30 minutes drive away. There are also other open gardens nearby - Marwood Hill, Tapeley Park and Docton Mill among them.
- The National Trust has numerous sites and properties nearby including Arlington court, Knightshayes, Killerton and Watersmeet among them.
