Through dappled woodland, down a drive swathed with wild flowers in spring to the most romantic, tucked away wooden retreat with stunning views over meadows dotted with Herdwick sheep. You're quite alone and not overlooked so you'll feel free as birds.
Inside is warm, unfussy and welcoming with plenty of squishy seats, a sweet kitchen area with a warming Aga (lit in cooler months) and all the stuff even a demanding cook could need. Books, maps and a wood-burner with plenty of logs make rainy days happy too, so hunker down and plan your next outing.
Bring bikes and join The Marshwood Vale which passes the top of the drive, explore Charmouth Forest with walking tracks in multiple directions, visit micro-breweries, gin distillers and vineyards, drive to Lyme Regis (12 minutes) for Hix oyster and fish. Beaches (10 minutes) are grand for fossil hunters, Burton Bradstock has the marvellous Hive Beach Cafe. Return to a sundowner on your veranda and watch the stars, and bats, come out.
