Relish an Aga-cooked breakfast as the barges sail by. The garden runs almost into the river where these majestic craft are moored, and the mudflats are a bird watcher’s dream.
Beneath wide skies this extended fisherman’s house looks out at the back to 12th-century St Mary’s where Kim and Gerry ring the Sunday bells. It’s an immaculate B&B in a special location, and each cosy guest room has a river view. A short, steep walk up the hill brings you to the quaint High Street, but the Quay is the nicest part of town.
A two-minute stroll takes you to The Jolly Sailor, a pretty pub with a popular terrace. A ten-minute wander and you’re at the Maldon Smokehouse - great for a bucketful of prawns.

"My husband and I stayed at 32 The Hythe on 13/06/12, after an fab evening on the Thistle Barge, we went to the B&B and Kim was really hospitable and friendly. The entire stay was fabulous, comfortable, relaxing. The extra touches around the place were brilliant. Oooh and good coffee, always a bonus. The breakfast was a feast. I would like to thank Kim everso much for her kindness and making us feel so welcome."

"What a fantastic two day stay we had last weekend in such an idealic spot. Kim and Gerry are great hosts, the house is beautiful with luxury furnishings and real attention to detail. We were lucky to hear the bells being rung on Sunday lead by Gerry this week. The breakfasts were first class and very generous. A couple who clearly enjoy having guests- Well Done!"

"Superb! The unique position of 32 The Hythe makes for the most amazing views of the magnificent Thames barges, right from the bedroom, and the colours of the dawn across the mud-flats are unforgettable. The breakfasts are generous, with a splendid selection of fresh fruit beautifully presented as well as an excellently-cooked 'full English'. We had breakfast in the beautifully-furnished dining-room, which also has lovely views across the estuary. Kim and Gerry's friendly hospitality is a delight; they genuinely enjoy having guests, and are very happy for guests to sit at leisure in their well-kept garden to enjoy the views and read the newspapers! We will definitely be back!"

"Absolutely superb! We stayed one night at 32 The Hythe and felt spoiled from the start. There are treats everywhere from the chocolate bars in the entrance hall to the proper biscuits and fresh milk in the thermos on the tea tray (no tiny fiddly packets here) and chocolates on the water carafe. Everything we could think of was there including a wonderful selection of DVDs we never had time to watch.
Best of all in the Gold Room (with windows on three sides) was the chaise longue right by the window overlooking the barges allowing us to watch the tide progress up and down the estuary.
And as for the bathroom - stuff of girly dreams. Again no piddling little bottles here but a wonderful selection of decent sized bottles of luscious scents and oils and creams.
Thank you Kim and Gerry. We will be back!"

"Kim and Gerry are excellent hosts and their home is in a wonderful position overlooking the Blackwater estuary. We had the en-suite room which was very comfortable and thoroughly enjoyed watching the Thames barges, the tides and birdlife from our window. The second room is larger and has windows on three sides so even more views and a private bathroom next door. Breakfast was a wonderful feast with lots of fresh fruit and choice. The traditional cooked breakfast with bubble and squeak cakes is to be recommended. We didn't need any lunch! The garden is delightful and a lovely place to sit and relax."

"Kim and Gerry were perfect hosts - friendly and offering a great place to stay. You could keep to yourself in the very comfortable rooms or rely on their local knowledge and get out to see the local sights and sounds. The breakfasts were really terrific, both in taste and quality and just as you ask for. We were travelling from Australia and would recommend 32 the Hythe to anyone - try it!"
