A richly atmospheric elegance infuses this fire-warmed inn. Venison from the park, crab from Cromer, walkers and dogs happy in the bar

The beautifully restored Gunton Arms overlooks one thousand acres of lush and historic parkland and the setting is stunning. There's a colourful hunting lodge style with warm red hues, wooden floors, a blazing log fire in the traditional bar (dogs welcome too), elegant lounges with pretty views of deer from every window.

Quaff pints of Wherry alongside gamekeepers and gentry; tuck into rib of beef cooked over the fire in the vaulted dining room. Stuart (ex-Mark Hix) champions locally sourced ingredients, so enjoy simple, gutsy ingredient-led cooking which prioritises local and seasonal food. Breakfast on Swafield cured bacon and Alby honey, Cley Smokehouse kippers, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs.

Bedrooms ooze country house charm with antiques, gorgeous fabrics and indulgent marble-tiled bathrooms, some with deep tubs and walk-in showers... wake to parkland views. Walks are sublime and you're just one mile from Thorpe Market.

Puntos de interés sobre la región de
The Gunton Arms:

  • Norwich Cathedral is unique for its soft creamy limestone exterior.
  • Bishop’s House Gardens is the historic private garden of the Bishop of Norwich and is a four acre delight of colour and calm where you can enjoy a few hours of respite in the green spaces.
  • Elm Hill & Princes Street - The cathedral is close to both Elm Hill and Princes Street, both picture-perfect cobbled streets near the River Wensum, lined with colourful and historic Tudor houses, many of them now pretty shops, restaurants, and cafés.
  • Norwich Castle, a magnificent Norman keep constructed in 1095 by William II, is built on a large artificial mound in the centre of Norfolk’s capital (and only) city as part of his campaign to defeat East Anglia after the Norman Conquest of England.

"Visited twice, once for lunch once for evening meal. A VERY different place, it is not a traditional pub but a very different eating place, could not be called a restaurant. On both visits food was served in a big room dominated by a big open fire on which steaks are cooked. The food is exceptional and the unusual setting makes the meal specially memorable. Wines not cheap but the cheaper end were very drinkable."

"A feast for all the senses, from the wonderful food to the smell of the fires in the morning, the uplifting sight of the deer in the grounds to the 'hidden treasures' dotted around the inn. The staff are really friendly and helpful and the atmosphere very relaxed. The rooms are beautifully decorated as is the whole building and we will want to return soon for more quirky luxury."
