Such a pretty sandstone house in the strawberry gothic style: the front half is devoted to guests with a big drawing room for afternoon tea in front of a wood-burner on chilly days, a huge dining room of the antlers and family oils variety and an elegant morning room. High ceilings and vast sash windows allow light to flood in and the views over the pretty gardens are seductive.
Start the day with a full Northumbrian: Manor bangers (made especially for them by the brilliant, local butcher), bacon, eggs (any way you like them), tomatoes, mushrooms and Northumbrian black pudding. Brunch can be ordered on lazy days and you can eat in the garden when it's warm enough. Bedrooms are generous with a Nespresso machine (coffee from Coffee and Kin). Bathrooms offer up White Company lotions and potions and a snifter of something nice.
Wander over to say hello to those mysterious wild cattle, spot deer, brown hares, many species of birds and red squirrels. Immerse yourself in this gorgeous county.

- Chillingham Castle is opposite. The castle is said to be the most haunted building in the UK. Ad Gefrin Distillery and Visitors Centre in Wooler. Opening Easter 2023.
- Bamburgh Beach and Bamburgh Castle are 20 minutes drive away. A huge sandy beach where you can surf & swim. It is always possible to avoid the crowds - Just ask us and we will share our secrets! Go to The Hairy Bikers fave restaurant The Potted Lobster.
- Alnwick Castle (Where Harry Potter was filmed) and Alnwick Gardens are 20 minutes away. The gardens are stunning no matter what time of year you visit. The castle has the most amazing art and you can have a go at Quidditch!
- The Cheviot Hills and Northumberland National Park are 15 minutes drive. Escape into the beautiful Cheviots for a days walking. Recommend The Ingram Valley Farm Safari.
- The Holy Island of Lindisfarne and Berwick upon Tweed are 25 minutes drive. Driving over the causeway is always a thrill! The beaches are out of this world. Feast on Lindisfarne Oysters from our friends Oyster farm in the bay. A pretty perfect day out!
