1820s cottage with long views, a lovely garden and generous extras. Alnwick is close and miles of white sandy beaches with dunes

This Grade II listed cottage feels remote but is only four miles from historic Alnwick. Delight in unbroken views of grazing sheep, the rugged Cheviots and open skies – it’s dramatic even when the weather is dull.

Cooks work in an uber-sleek kitchen and extra family or friends can join in comfortably at the large Mousey Thompson table. Lydia leaves you with a welcome hamper of wine, fruit and local cake, and can arrange all kinds of concierge services - a private chef, foodie hampers, organic spa treatments and guided walks with an ex-shepherd.

Sit out in the garden, go for walks, take a picnic into the woods or hop into the car for the delights of the Northumberland coast - sandy beaches, historic castles, seaside villages and quaint harbour towns are within half an hour’s drive.

Lydia Achard:

  • Northumberland offers wild coastline, a string of sandy beaches, historic castles and forts, secret surf spots, chocolate box cottages and quaint harbour towns combined with dynamic mountain range scenery that will take your breath away.
  • Head to the picturesque seaside village of Alnmouth to discover bijou galleries hidden down cobbled streets. Don’t miss the renowned Art Festival in the summer which showcases over 70 artists, live music, street food and children’s workshops.
  • Enjoy a boat trip to the Farne Islands, one of the best spots to see a wide range of sea birds in the British Isles. It is the biggest Grey Seal sanctuary in England and one can find Puffins more plentiful here in season than almost anywhere else in the UK
  • Saddle up and enjoy country hacks near the banks of the nearby River Till to galloping in the heather on the moors overlooking the Cheviot Hills and cantering along the white beaches of Holy Island with one of the friendly local riding schools.
  • Northumberland has more castles than any other county in England. Many of these castles, including Warkworth, Dunstanburgh, Bamburgh and Lindisfarne, stand guard along our dramatic coast.
  • With more than 30 miles of beaches, a galapagos of islands, hidden coves and designated areas of outstanding natural beauty. Head over to Beadnell beach, a hub of activity where you can enjoy windsurfing, waterskiing, coasteering, canoeing and sailing.

Guest feedback
"Hi Lydia, On behalf of my family, I just wanted to let you know how much we all enjoyed our stay at Keepers Cottage last week. A really cosy and extremely comfortable cottage, all of us felt most at home there! I admit the weather could have been a bit warmer but that did not prevent us from visiting Northumberlands beautiful coast and countryside. At least we had a fantastic log fire to warm ourselves in the evenings! A special thankyou also for the flowers, wine and delicious carrot cakes, they were much appreciated. I'm sure we shall return for future holidays! "
