Trillow House - Self-catering in Shropshire
School House, Clungunford, SY7 0QE, Shropshire
England,
Reino Unido
Inside is traditional with well-chosen antiques, some beautiful original prints and paintings, wood carvings and ceramics. The house has underfloor heating and thick insulation so you'll be cosy if you can't get outdoors and there is a Smart TV, good board games and a cupboard full of toys for children. A thoughtful kitchen has proper sharp knives and plenty of gear, including a good Barista machine.
A welcome hamper brims with biscuits, bread and cake from local producers and you'll find basics for cooking in the cupboards. Bedrooms, one master king-size double and a twin (with an extra truckle bed if needed), are uncluttered, peaceful and light; the shared family bathroom has a large bath and a rain shower and some lovely mosaic tiles.
The garden wraps around two sides of the house and there are table and chairs for al fresco meals plus a grassed area. At dusk you should see barn and tawny owls flying around the mature trees.

Sophia Massey-Cook:
- Tucked away in the glorious Shropshire countryside, eight miles from the market town of Ludlow, Trillow House was originally built as the old School Master’s House in the 1850s to a design by gothic architect AE Perkins.
- The stunning and varied landscape of the Welsh Marches and Shropshire Hills AONB provides limitless walking and mountain biking trails. Hiking on Caer Caradoc and the Long Mynd is accessible from Church Stretton, 12 miles away.
- Nearby trails include The Shropshire Way, Offa’s Dyke, The Herefordshire Trail and the Jack Mytton Way.
- The area is richly populated with atmospheric iron age forts, medieval castles and stately homes. In particular there is National Trust gem, Croft Castle, and the renowned fortified manor house Stokesay Castle just down the road.
- Just eight miles away is foodie heaven Ludlow, described by Country Life as 'the most vibrant small town in the country'. Its 500 listed buildings are mainly Georgian or half-timbered, set within the original 13th-century town walls.
- The Clun Valley is known for its beautiful countryside, charming villages and series of castles and fortified manor houses. Hopton Castle is on the outskirts of the village; the romantic ruins of Clun Castle lie further up the valley.
