Sitting pretty on the village green, a friendly pub rescued by locals, with imaginative menus, local beers and a warm welcome

Read guest comments

Wind your way down country lanes and across hump-backed bridges to find this pretty village and its 300-year-old pub rescued by locals and run with passion by a friendly team. Duck under old beams to where muted colours and fresh furniture set the scene for fine dining or a quick lunch. Parties can eat upstairs in the dramatically painted private dining room. Settle by the open fire in the snug with a pint of Woodforde's Wherry, or wander into the big garden. Manager Daniel trained as a pastry chef at the Ritz and still takes his turn in the kitchen. Menus change often and include pub classics as well as seasonal dishes like pigeon breast with leg croustillant and pickled blackberries. There's a separate menu for cheese, a taster menu, and many delicious puddings on offer. Bury St Edmunds is a 20 minute drive, Stowmarket 10 minutes.

Guest feedback
"Main attractions of the Brewers are the building itself, all ancient exposed beams, the genuine and warm welcome from Daniel and his team, and of course the menu. It really is worthwhile eating a la carte and enjoying with your meal a choice from a particularly thoughtful wine list. All of the food is local and from treasured local suppliers, who are spoken of as part of the team."
