Leave the busy pavement to be lulled in a relaxing seating area with back-lit bookshelves either side of a cosy open fire, slate floors, and a very effective blue hue created by window glass which shields you from the outdoors. There's a classic tap room to one side, then the long bar and further on the Brasserie dining area. Keep going and you reach the light and airy menagerie extension with retractable roof and doors which open to a courtyard – on warm days you can eat out here.
Food is freshly prepared and well cooked – you'll find hearty pub classics (with a twist) alongside more adventurous modern dishes. There's a brunch and sandwich menu, afternoon tea and a sturdy Sunday lunch. Craft beers, hand pumped ale and a thoughtful wine list will keep most folk very happy. Upstairs bedrooms are all different with rich fabrics and lots of treats.
