Boxwood - Self-catering house in Sussex
Bixley Lane, Rye, TN31 6TH, Sussex
England,
Reino Unido
In a clearing in the forest, surrounded by leafy Wildlife Trust reserve, is a simple, contemporary, architect-designed home, a place to unwind and recharge. Spanning two floors, the living area is above, the bedrooms are below and the palest of pale flooring (solid oak) runs throughout. All is serene.
Upstairs is open plan and there are two lovely decks for summery meals, one at each end. Airy by day, cosy by night – the wood-stove glows, the floors are toasty – this charming cabin-house is a comfortable retreat, with more heated floors in bedrooms and super-mod bathrooms.
Wild boar and deer roam, rabbits scamper, birds sing. Stroll one mile to Beckley for a pub or to Peasmarsh for Jempson’s, a super independent supermarket, if you run out of stores. Bexhill is along the coast, and quirky, literary Rye is 15 minutes.

Local points of interest from Tim Bushe:
Puntos de interés sobre la región de
Tim Bushe:
- The grounds and surrounding woods are a paradise for bird watching. Butterflies, Moths, Mayflies, bats, Munjac deer and if you are lucky Wild Boar, which can sometimes be seen at dusk.
- In spring the grounds are full of Daffodils and the Rhododendron and Azalea bushes are truly spectacular when in blossom. We have Great Dixter on our doorstep where you can visit one of the beautiful gardens in the UK, created by Christopher Lloyd.
- On the nearby coast we have Rye Harbour nature reserve - one of the most serene bits of coastline on the south east. Camber, is the nearest large sandy beach to London and and by contrast Winchelsea has a beautiful quiet pebble beach.
- Hastings, with its heady mix of beach activities, fascinating quirky shops and cinemas is less than 30 mins away and now has the new Jerwood Art Gallery on the harbour front. Bexhill and the De La Warr pavilion are just a little further along the coast.
- For the sports enthusiasts, there are golf courses at Rye and Hastings and a pitch and putt at Tenterden. Sumptuous grass tennis courts at Rye Tennis Club, which allow visitors to pay and play and plenty of fishing sites in the rivers and lakes nearby.
- One of the best preserved medieval towns in England, Rye is home to the enchanting cobbled Mermaid Street, the impressive Norman church of St Mary’s, specialist shops and a thriving fishing fleet. Rye has a new kino cinema with two screens and a cafe.
