This pioneering English vineyard sits in the glorious South Downs with views all the way to the sea. Arrive to a glass of wine or pot of tea; you can book a tour of the vineyard with wine tasting and lunch. Walk straight onto the South Downs Way from the door.

More poshtel than hostel, you'll find lots of fresh en suite bedrooms.

Breakfast, lovingly cooked and local, is in the lofty dining room; the innovative dinner and Sunday lunch menus are a treat too - the chef is a keen forager. Settle in to a big communal sitting room made snug with wood-burner, books and games.

  • Tours and wine tastings are available every week, all year round. Learn about the history of the Rathfinny Wine Estate and see behind-the-scenes of our state of the art winery, followed by a Sussex wine tasting.
  • You don't have to travel far for excellent food and wine during your stay. Our Estate is home to two restaurants including the Michelin-recommended Tasting Room, cosy Flint Barns Dining Room and al-fresco wine bar, The Hut.
  • It’s a short walk up the valley to join the South Downs Way. A long distance footpath and bridleway running along the South Downs in southern England, and is one of 15 National Trails in England and Wales.
  • Cuckmere Valley is a haven for wildlife, from over-wintering wildfowl to colourful wild flowers. Cradle Valley is a wonderful example of the species-rich chalk grassland. This habitat attracts rare and colourful butterflies and plants in summer.
  • Alfriston village is consistently named one of the best and most prettiest villages in the UK. The quaint historic high street is home to independent shops, galleries and pubs and within walking distance of the Alfriston Clergy House & Garden.
  • We are very lucky to have so many places to visit. Seven Sisters Country Park, Charleston Farmhouse, Glyndebourne, Towner Gallery, Michelham Priory, Newhaven Fort and Lewes Castle are all within easy reach of the Flint Barns.

"What an amazing place! Adrian made our whole stay very pleasurable and we will definitely stay again. Such a unique setting and excellent quality accommodation. Yummy breakfast and enjoyed sampling the wine from the estate. Perfect events venue also."

"A great place for a B&B stop especially if you are walking the Downs and Adrian provides a map so you can't miss it when coming off the mains Downs pathway. Lovely location and such a well-appointed & furnished unique place to stay - even if the room, the smallest bunkbed room for 4, was definitely on the small size. The staff were great, full of advice and really friendly, but beware of other guests who may not be dog lovers and put a dampener on proceedings. The Rathfinny shop in Frictional also worth a visit - and book early for the vineyard tours. Definitely be back for the Sparkling wine."
