A cosy and relaxing village inn in the heart of the unspoilt Ebble Valley (wonderful for walkers) with fresh bedrooms and excellent food

The layout is traditional with brick and flint walls, beams and timbers, slate floors and a central brick fireplace with a wood-burning stove pumping out heat. An eclectic mix of antiques and quirky artwork, flickering candles and big lamps create a happy atmosphere. Hearty meals are served including homemade pies, superb local fallow deer and scrumptious cheeses and puddings. Beers from local breweries are on tap as well as cocktails and a fine wine list.

Bedrooms are in a separate building and are simple and pretty with antiques and materials from nearby markets and suppliers, very comfortable beds and proper lighting for readers. Wake to a thoughtful turmeric and lemon shot, or even a Bloody Mary before you tackle a full English. In summer you can eat in the sheltered courtyard – strewn with roses and very peaceful.

Stride out on a network of paths beside the chalk stream and up onto breezy downland with far-reaching views.

The Bookings Team:

  • The Medieval city of Salisbury is home to Salisbury Cathedral and also our little pizza shop, nole on the square. The 13th century cathedral sits amongst 80 acres of stunning grounds and has one of Europe’s tallest spires.
  • Messums Wiltshire - An unsuspecting 13th Century tithe barn, in fact the largest in the country, is home to this multi-purpose gallery and arts centre. Wander through the exhibitions before relaxing at the Messums Coffee house.
  • Wilton House - You can enjoy an amble through the house, around the 21 acres of landscaped grounds, or a play in the adventure playground. You may recognise some of the backdrops from period drama series such as The Crown or Bridgerton.
  • Explore a variety of scenic walks - we recommend Fifield Downs circular routes and the Broad Chalke - where you can its thatched cottages, steep green hills, chalk streams and watercress beds.
