On a magical peninsular in west Galloway, land of sea and cows, 2 stylish cottages & a farmhouse perfect for nature-loving families...

Read guest comments

Warmed by the Gulf Stream, lapped by the waters of Loch Ryan, this 1,400 acre estate is yours to share. Innumerable native and exotic trees flourish, deer cross the lawns, red squirrels, hedgehogs and hares drop by, and the self-catering cottages, down a private drive, ooze style and polish. The first lies in a two-storey wing of the rambling Georgian house, with gorgeous garden views; the second is above the old stables. Super-inviting under sloping ceilings, it has a cosy wood-burner and its own garden. Both are immaculate, with painted wrought-iron beds, new carpets, gleaming floors and a scattering of prints by Scottish artists. Kitchens have all you need, there's a farm shop nearby and the nearest restaurant is seven miles. Owners Kate and Angus, the nicest pair, leave you welcome goodies, flowers, board games and DVDs; best of all, they are happy for young guests to share their children's play house and trampoline. If you bring a big crowd there's High Clachan, a handsome farmhouse for 8, just down the road. Come for gardens by the hatful, vast sands at Luce, the old harbour of Portpatrick (and its great pubs!). Or catch the ferry to Belfast.

  • Red squirrels are us! We have four feeders dotted about the estate and you can watch the bushy tailed creatures feeding and getting up to their tricks - it's highly entertaining viewing! Other wildlife on the estate includes roe deer, hares and otters.
  • We have a network of magnificent woodland paths and coastal walks on the Estate. There are lots of different options for shorter or longer walks and no need to drive anywhere they are on the doorstep. The wildflowers and the sea views are wonderful.
  • The Estate has three lovely beaches so grab a swimming costume/wet suit/paddle board/kayak or a bucket and spade and go!
  • There are lots of gardens to visit in the area including Glenwhan and Castle Kennedy. The jewel in the crown is Logan Botanical Gardens - which has a wonderful array of exotic plants and a tip top cafe to boot too
  • For the great outdoors, head to the Galloway Forest Park and enjoy stunning walks or mountain biking in the hills.
  • With some of the clearest night time skies in the country, you could book a star gazing evening on the Estate with our friendly Dark Skies Park Ranger.

"As a family group of 6 adults, we stayed at High Clachan for a week and had a wonderful time. The house was very comfortable and it is in an idyllic area. It was very peaceful and great to be able to walk from the house up the lane to Port Beg with virtually no-one else around. We enjoyed watching the swallows, buzzards, rabbits and occasional deer from the house. A beautiful area of Scotland to stay in with an interesting coastline. Kate was a charming host. "

"Superb! Stables cottage was beautifully set out and had everything we could want. With two small children (2 and 4) the use of the trampoline, wendy house, swings and slides and estate was fabulous, as was the beach within walking distance. The holiday was made by the hosts themselves, who were generous in sharing both their property and their time - giving us tips, letting us collect eggs and strawberries in the beautiful walled garden, lending us a tent for a camp out, providing midge repellent!!, their children playing with ours. Thank you Kate and Angus!"

"Wonderful location, stunning house and when we visited we had beautiful weather. This really is a home from home. Everything was perfect, our hosts, Kate and Angus, very welcoming and the children loved the cookies on arrival! "

"We celebrated a family birthday at Corsewall, renting both High Clachan and Stables cottage. The quality of both was superb, they are beautifully decorated, immaculately tidy, extremely comfortable and offer exceptional value for money. The owners were charming and our children loved exploring the estate and gardens, they have a lovely play area and trampoline which guests are able to use. All in all it was faultless, and we look forward to our next visit."

"Just had a really lovely stay at Corsewall. The Stables is lovely, just as the website describes and more. We loved being on the estate with the freedom to walk wherever we wanted. Sidney loved his doggy holiday, he fell in love with the resident dogs. Kate and Angus are lovely hosts, so helpful, with lots of ideas for days out. We loved it. "

"We had a wonderful stay at Garden Cottage. It is beautifully decorated and very well appointed, a real home from home. It is clear that lots of thought has been put in to ensure you have a perfectly relaxing holiday. Our 2 young children loved walking and playing in the grounds and on the play equipment and were made to feel very welcome. Kate and Angus even lent us a child carrier which made walks in the gardens, woods and beaches much easier than with our buggy. We would definitely look forward to a return visit."

"We had a wonderful time at Stables Cottage. Kate and Angus made us so welcome. The cottage was perfect, and the estate was so beautiful that we didn’t actually visit many of the places we had planned to, because we were happy to wander in the fresh air and enjoy cosy evenings “at home”! We loved watching the squirrels, hares, and deer, and the view of the walled garden from the bedroom window was delightful. "

"Emma and I had a fabulous time at corsewall ..... In fact it was the first time We both managed to relax and wind down away from the pressures of work. The stables were simply perfect . Emma and I are quite careful these days on picking places as we have, in the past, been disappointed with web image versus reality .... This was not the case at the stables.... All was simply better than we could have wished for :-) we both loved the way you both had decorated .... And spending a week in a cottage that is comfortable makes a big difference.    We will have no problems returning"
