The West Nest - Self-catering cottage in Isle of Skye
Fasach, IV55 8WP, Isle of Skye
Scotland,
Reino Unido
With underfloor heating and a wood-burner you'll feel cosy even if the weather is blowing a hooley - lovely to sit back on the huge L-shaped sofa and watch the drama unfold through the picture window. The colours chosen for indoors were inspired by the landscape surrounding you; hues of green, rust and black. Clever lighting illuminates a mix of modern and mid-century furniture, the kitchen is swish with kit and roomy for sharing the chopping.
It's a generous place too: Skye gin and Talisker whisky are waiting, the logs are unlimited (you'll find loads in the stack outside) and Ishga organic soaps and shampoos scent the bathrooms. Sleep under Richard Haworth sheets with soft wool throws from Skye Weavers - the next door neighbours. Curtains are lined and there are blackout blinds for those long summer nights.
Spill onto the decking for spectacular sunsets, light the fire pit, open the wine and watch each star turn into a blanket.

Local points of interest from Gordon Shaw:
Puntos de interés sobre la región de
Gordon Shaw:
- Our next door neighbours are the super talented Skye Weavers who create incredible textiles from local wool which will have walked past our garden gate at some point. Whats more their entire production process is powered by pedal! Definitely worth a visit!
- A visit to Neist Point is a must! You can walk to the working lighthouse, spend an hour dolphin spotting and maybe stay around to watch the sun go down behind Uist and Harris. It's about a 10 minute drive from the house.
- Take a walk down the hill from the house into Lephin, stop off at Cafe Lephin for a cuppa and a scone, then continue down to Loch Pooltiel before looping back through Feriniquarrie and back to the house. Allow an hour for the loop walk, plus scone time.
- Drop Sconsor Scallops a message a few days before you head to Skye and David will literally dive out his back door and have the still living scallops waiting for you to collect on your way to The West Nest. You'll never eat a fresher scallop in your life.
- Dunvegan Castle is the longest continuously occupied castle in Scotland and is still a private house to this day. They open the house and gardens from Apr - Oct for tours. Continue down the road to the Coral Beach for a taste of the Caribbean in Scotland
- Other fab days out include: A boat trip with SeaSkye, Canyoning with Skye Highland Adventures, a Distillery tour of Talisker, see the Quiraing, Fairy Pools, Fairy Glen, Mealt Falls, Glenbrittle beach, the Cuillins, Portree..... I could keep going forever!
