Spacious bolthole for two with long sea views: explore the wilds of the Scottish Isles, watch plenty of wildlife from big windows

Gaze at stunning views over the sea loch and beautiful, remote landscapes from your roomy architect-designed cottage; set up the binoculars and watch out for otters, seals and eagles from any window - or on the small patio, perfect for your morning coffee or sundowner. You'll find some books to help you identify wildlife too.

A generous hamper has all you need for breakfast on your first morning. Borrow maps, bikes and thermos flasks and set off along quiet lanes for wonderful walks and ease your aching limbs in the sauna afterwards.

Watch a film – there are many here to choose from - sink into the deep bath with a book from the eclectic library or simply look out at stormy or starry skies. You’ll be kept cosy by the underfloor heating and roaring wood-burner.

  • With an abundance of resident and migratory wildlife on your doorstep, expect to see everything from White-Tailed Sea Eagles to Arctic Terns and from Otters to Orcas and Basking Sharks.
  • The Outer Hebrides has its own unique culture and traditions, from peat-cutting to weaving Harris Tweed. The Gaelic language is widely spoken throughout the islands and contemporary Gaelic music features strongly in the summer Hebridean Celtic Festival.
  • Small art galleries and craft workshops are dotted around the Islands, tearooms have sprung up in the most unlikely and remote settings and enticing restaurants serve local game, heather-grazed lamb and the freshest fish and shellfish.
  • A private boat charter for two with “Hebrides Fish ‘n’ Trips”, departing from the pier a few minutes’ walk from your cottage will allow you to visit the spectacular Shiant Islands or explore the many sea lochs and lagoons of the east coast of the Island.
  • Drive through the diverse landscapes of Lewis and Harris and visit some of the most beautiful and remote beaches: Luskentyre beach on Harris or deserted Uig beach on Lewis which found fame as the location for the discovery of the Lewis Chessmen.
  • Take in some important historical sites such as the Iron Age House in Bosta; the Neolithic Standing Stones at Callanish; the Beehive Dwellings near the Lewis- Harris border or visit one of the best preserved Broch towers in Scotland at Doune, Carloway.
