Relax in peace & quiet: orchards, woods, organic farm, wildlife everywhere. Offa's Dyke nearby - start the day with Teona's veggie breakfast

Read guest comments

Head down the lane into deepest Monmouthshire and the meadows, orchards and woodland of Teona's organic farm. There are six ponds and miles of bushy hedges; bees, ponies, peafowl and wild flowers flourish. The 17th-century house, restored from dereliction, has lovely views, flagstones and oak, limewashed walls and a magical feel. Up steep stairs are rustic bedrooms with beams, lots of books, no TV; the attic rooms get the best views of all. Bathrooms are simple, one has a huge old roll top tub. After a good vegetarian breakfast at the long kitchen table take a farm tour, explore Offa's Dyke or the Wye Valley – and enjoy the silence.

Local points of interest from Teona Dorrien-Smith:

Puntos de interés sobre la región de
Teona Dorrien-Smith:

  • This is an organic farm with half the fields (about 50 acres) registered as "Local Wildlife Sites" - great for naturalists of all kinds. The Offa's Dyke path is only a couple of fields away.
  • We're close to the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean: walk in the woods or hire bikes. Canoe down the River Wye past wooded hills to Chepstow Castle and the Bristol Channel. Or try pony trecking or biking in the Black Mountains.
  • Excellent local restaurants - eg The Walnut Tree, The Bell at Skenfrith, among others, within 15-20 minutes drive. And good pubs too, all serving local food, more or less. Usually necessary to book, especially at weekends.
  • Try hill-walking or biking in the Brecon Beacons National Park - about 40 minutes away, followed perhaps by a night out at Theatre Brycheineog, Brecon's exciting little theatre, one among several local theatres and cinemas. Or go to the opera in Cardiff.
  • Sightseeing: huge views from The Kymin above Monmouth, the Nelson collection in Monmouth museum, local castles, small churches and ruined abbeys among the hills & surreal Roman iron workings at Coleford; and for a wet day, the Big Pit World Heritage Site
  • Concerts and festivals of music all year round, Abergavenny Food Festival in September and Hay Literature Festival in late May. And local agricultural shows - animals, machinery, produce competitions. Within easy reach of Cardiff, Hereford, and Bristol.

"A true hidden gem! Magic to happen upon such a beautiful old house down a windy lane with peacocks wandering in the grounds. Teona recommended a great pub up the road for supper and made tip top scrambled eggs for my early start. Wish I could've stayed longer and explored more!"
