Carreg Wen - Self-catering house in Pembrokeshire
Llanunwas, Solva, SA62 6UJ, Pembrokeshire
Wales,
Reino Unido
The old farm malthouse (ex stables, ex tin-topped shack) has become a blissful bolthole by the sea. Carreg Wen, recently and beautifully revived, has it all: a design-led interior but nothing too precious, a glorious ever-changing panorama of the sea, a huge garden that's great for children, and the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path a skip away. Down a quiet track well back from the main road, you enter an open-plan ground floor, charming and inviting with pale painted beams and heated slate floors. Welsh antiques mix with old family pieces, there are squishy linen sofas and local art on the walls, and, for ultra cosiness, a wood-burner and a basket of logs. The country kitchen and the utility room are fabulously equipped, right down to the tumble dryer – handy for wet togs. Also downstairs, in the 'wing', are a twin bedroom and a family bathroom. Upstairs: two lovely fresh limewashed doubles, one with an en suite shower. We can't fault the décor, nor the Bose sound system, nor the wine and the Welsh cakes that greet you on arrival! You're next to one of Wales' biggest rookeries and a five-minute walk from Solva.

Andy Davies:
- A short stroll (2 fields) from Carreg Wen and you join the world famous Pembrokeshire Coastal Path, spanning 186 miles of some of the most dramatic coastal scenery in Britain. This remote stretch of the coastline is simply breathtaking.
- Just a 5 minute drive from Carreg Wen (featured recently in The Times Newspaper as one of the 12 finest coastal holiday homes) lies one of Wales' most iconic religious sites, St. David's Cathedral. Now a must-see for visitors to Britain's smallest city.
- If you're looking for a thrilling aquatic adventure, then you've come to the birthplace of `coasteering'. Grab a wetsuit in St. Davids and then scramble, climb, swim and cliff jump your way along the coast. As featured on BBC Countryfile. Exhilarating.
- Nearby Newgale Beach has been labelled by the Independent as one of the world's `50 Best Romantic Hotspots for Lovers'. Also a ten minute drive away, you'll find one of Wales' best surfing beaches at Whitesands.
- Ramsey Island, just off the peninsula, is host to one of the largest breeding colonies of Atlantic grey seals in the British Isles. Take a boat trip around the island and you might spot some dolphins, porpoises and puffins too! An amazing experience.
- St. Davids has some great restaurants, but you're only a 10 minute walk from the Cambrian Inn, near the stunning harbour of Solva. It is one of the region's finest eateries and comes with affordable prices too. Highly recommended.
