Bring friends or family to this calm, considered retreat in lovely St Florence, a quiet backwater sitting on the river Ritec, near Tenby

It's a grand spot for winding down whether you come for outdoor shenanigans or just to laze about. Your 19th-century cottage in a row of three is bigger inside than it looks and it sits on a quiet road - just the occasional tractor and oodles of birdsong will disturb the peace. The light, bright sitting room has a comfy corner sofa, a log-burner with little seats beside it, cushions with pretty fabrics, shelves of games and books.

Bedrooms upstairs have crisp cotton sheets from Richard Haworth, lino prints reflecting nature, vintage mirrors, pegs for hanging clothes, and beds high enough to tuck your suitcase underneath. Even more books will make bibliophiles very happy. Cook up a storm in the open-plan kitchen with a friendly farmhouse table and chairs, a proper coffee machine and a welcome hamper of Pembrokeshire goodies.

The suntrap garden is the place for long evenings with a barbecue and a good bottle of wine.

Emma Eggleston:

  • Close to the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, there are over 10 stunning beaches within a 30 minute drive (7 only 10 minutes away). Award winning and many with a Blue Flag. Rugged and unspoilt or more traditionally Victorian, nature is impressive here.
  • Being surrounded by coastline means there's plenty of opportunity to enjoy a variety of seaside adventures. From coastal path wanders, sandcastles, sunbathing, Kayaking or SUP hire, Coasteering and Sea Safaris. There is plenty for any age and preference.
  • Day trips to Skomer Island are delightful and will reward the nature seeker with a whole host of flora, fauna and wildlife. Famous for thousands of breeding Puffins from April till July and many other nesting seabirds, Dolphins, Seals and Porpoises too.
  • Steeped in History there are three impressive Castles close by. Pembroke, Carew and Manorbier are all open to visitors. There are many National Trust properties nearby. The Satckpole Estate, boasting Bosherston Lily Ponds and Barafundle Bay to name one.
  • Foodies will enjoy the many offerings in Tenby and near by Narberth, including restaurants, cafes and Deli's. Try Coast Restaurant, Saundersfoot; Loafley Deli, Tenby; Ultracomida, Narberth and The Fernery Fine Dining Restaurant at The Grove, Narberth.
  • There are plenty of attractions for children close to St Florence, including Manor Wildlife Park, Folly Farm, Heatherton World of Activities, Oakwood Theme Park and more. Whatever the season there is plenty to see and do to wile away the hours.
