Start the day with breakfast - a feast of local produce. End it with a last lazy lap in the pool, watching the sun set behind the Pyrenees.

Rachel and Xavier have taken over the running of this exceptional B&B, started by Rachel's parents in 2004. They could not be warmer or more gracious, and open their arms to all ages. As for the 18th-century manor, flanked by a winery, it is charming both outside and in, full of light and elegant proportions.

Explore the mountains and the foothills - by electric bike if you prefer! Or venture into Pau, 6km. Once the wintering spot of expats, it's a grand little city poised between the mountains and the sea. For smaller shops and a weekly market, the wine-making town of Jurançon is a hop in the car.

"Our three nights at Clos Mirabel were blissful. The location is stunning: mountainscapes all around and peace which sinks deep into your bones. the house is both beautiful but hugely welcoming. Ann and Andre could not have done more to look after us: trays of tea, restaurant booking, loans of woolly hats for a trip to 9,000 feet, travel advice. Best of all they have a genuine passion for what they do; their hospitality is faultless. We could not believe the feasts offered for breakfast: fruit, yoghurt, local cheeses and hams, artisan breads, more kinds of honey than you knew existed. Go now!"

"The best place we stayed during our holiday. Fascinating area. We had the Master Bedroom - very spacious and comfortable - fabulous views - the breakfast was superb. Can't wait to go back."

"A warm welcome awaited us at Clos Mirabel ~ tea on the terrace with the most magnificent view of the Pyrenees imaginable. Ann and Andre are natural hosts who ensure your stay is as comfortable as possible in their beautiful home."

"We spent 2 days at Clos Mirabel en route to the Mediterranean coast. We were welcomed by Ann who is the perfect host. We were offered tea on the terrace overlooking the mountains. When the cloud clears what a view! Ann was also a helpful tour guide and gave us information on restaurants. She even booked them for us - both suggestions were excellent. Clos Mirabel is close to Pau and the mountains so there is plenty to do but it was lovely to return and sit in the garden or by the pool and gaze at the spectacular scenery! Our room was comfortable and breakfast was plentiful. A great find!"

"We spent several glorious days at Clos Mirabel ,    Jurancon France, in  October 2012.   We were greeted with an incredible view of mountains and vineyards, which was matched  inside by a large warm beautifully furnished home.  Our room was large,  airy,  immaculate, and very pretty.  How could it get any better? It did, as Andre and Anne, our hosts, we're very warm, hospitable, and informative.  They helped us plan our excursions and recommended great local restaurants.  We were also able to have them provide a picnic  and wine in the yard, overlooking the awesome mountain range.   We hope to"

"Other reviewers have extolled and described the virtues of Clos Mirabel with its incomparable views over the Pyrenees. One should perhaps add that having André with his French-Canadian diplomatic background and Ann with her perfect grasp and love of things French means that you feel you really are in France, yet at home, from wherever you come. A gem."

"We were welcomed most graciously by Andre and Ann to this most delightful and beautifully restored home. A very welcome beer (in my case) was followed by a lovely meal at a nearby restaurant, recommended by Andre. We were in a bedroom which Ann is quite obviously very proud of, with good reason; elegant furniture and a bed as good as our own (high praise). Wonderful and congratulations to them. We will be back to try the golf!"

"We enjoyed a wonderful three days in Ann and Andre’s beautiful home, Clos Mirabel. For us, staying at Clos Mirabel was a holiday within a holiday. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. From the moment of our arrival, Ann and Andre treated us as if we were extended family, always welcoming, never intrusive. Guest accommodation in the main house at Clos Mirabel really is part of the family home and it is impossible not to feel comfortable and relaxed. The rooms are generous, inviting, beautifully furnished and, in our view, exceptional value. Breakfast at Clos Mirabel is also a very special experience and Ann goes to some trouble to ensure that everything on the table is of the finest quality. In addition to beautiful homemade jams and local smoked trout and ham, there are delicious cheeses and organic yoghurts from the surrounding area. These are all served in a charming dining room, through the windows of which can be seen vineyards in the foreground with the Pyrenees as backdrop. We strongly recommend Clos Mirabel to friends, some of who have already visited and left feeling the same as we do! Even from Sydney, Australia, we will be back!"

"We went here on our honeymoon, and we couldn't have chosen anywhere better for a relaxing and romantic time away. In fact, it was so relaxing, we stayed an extra day! The rooms and property are large, elegant, and immaculate, but it was Ann and André who 'made' our stay here. They put in real effort to making us feel at ease, with plenty of space to relax on our own, and they shared so many small kindnesses that we can't begin to count them all. Some highlights were the homegrown fruit and local specialties that piled the breakfast table, Ann and Andre's engaging conversation, and the stunning view of the Pic du Midi that greeted us every morning from our window shutters. This is quite possibly the best b&b we have ever visited. Our only real advice (besides staying here) is to make sure you have a car - taxis can definitely get you into Pau/Jurancon, but it's enough of a distance that having your own transportation helps a lot. We'd also recommend the nearby two-star Chez Ruffet in Jurancon for a special night out."
