This remarkably restored 14th-century barn is set just outside the hilltop gem of Simiane la Rotonde, once the regional capital of lavender, and is surrounded by vast purple fields and olive groves.
There’s a sense of peace and space, with rooms gathered around a central terrace filled with geraniums, and you have a small but lovely walled garden to yourselves. Josiane, kind and intelligent, lives in the priory next door – you’re welcome to swim in the large pool in her garden.
A bakery, bar and restaurant are just down the street, and there are a few more shops in the village. The Abbaye de Valsaintes, four km outside the village, has a beautiful rose garden and restored church, and you can drive to Banon or Apt in less than 15 minutes for more shops, restaurants and typical Provençal markets.

Puntos de interés sobre la región de
Josiane Tamburini:
- Simiane la Rotonde is a small "city of character". It's built on a hill and crowned by a 12th century castle recently .restored. In the delightful "Rotonde", a famous Festival of ancient music takes place every year in august .
- From Simiane it's an easy drive to explore the three mountains: Luberon, Lure, Ventoux and all the pretty villages built at their foot: Lourmarin, Bonnieux Lacoste Gordes Roussillon, Montbrun, Brantes...Many paths if you like walking or cycling!
- All around the year you will find picturesque "provençal" markets in the nearby little towns: Apt, Forcalquier, Sault, Banon...More enjoyable than supermarkets!
- In Banon, 9km, a large book-shop -among the largest in France- is open everyday : "Le Bleuet". What e pleasure to wander in it! Some books in english are available. And for more terrestrial food "Le Chapeau Rouge", is only 100m from the barn!
- If you don't mind longer drives, from Simiane you can easely reach Aix en Provence or Avignon, two historical towns well known for their monuments and their charms.
- Last but not least, the village is surrounded by lavender fields, in full blossom from mid-june to mid-july. Beautiful colors and delicate perfumes all around! An aromatherapy center takes place in the castle.
