A beautifully restored, impeccably decorated 19th-century winemaker's farmhouse on the side of a vineyard-braided hill. It's an elegant sort of spot and you're looked after beautifully. Bedrooms with clean lines and thick fabrics are round the outside of the main house, while the suite is down a path screened by bamboo - all have their own little outdoor spaces.
Paved paths lead through a verdant garden bursting with pots of rosemary, thyme, lavender, sage, pebble beds of kentia palms and olive trees in wooden containers, to the centrepiece: a raised limestone pool lined with canvas loungers and surrounded by a sleek overflow wall with views across wooded hills to the grandiose 'Charlemagne's Crown' cliff face.
A spectacular breakfast is served in the main house or outdoors looking over the vines: local fruit, cheeses, hams, honey and pastries - eggs if you want them. Walk into Cassis in 20 minutes for the port, shops, restaurants and beach.
