Set up the barbecue, take dinner under the pergola and absorb the panorama; it swoops south to the Massif des Maures and ends in the Mediterranean. This spacious, secluded, 18th-century house, its thick walls oblivious to summer’s heat, stands in eight acres at the top of a long track.
There’s masses of space to spread out in two sitting rooms, two terraces, and a summer kitchen so it couldn’t be better for families and those wishing to escape the hubbub. You’ll find peaceful walks among the terraced olives and pines.
Enjoy the hinterland of the Var: the market comes on Tuesdays to medieval Lorgues (5km). Take a coffee in the town's dappled shade; stop off for wines at Château Les Crostes. And if you fancy a day on the beaches, head off for the Riviera; lovely St Maxime and Fréjus are less than an hour away.
