Béatrice and Joseph have lived all across the globe undertaking important humanitarian work and effortlessly combining a lightness of touch with a worldly sensibility. They have renovated and reimagined the family home – a fine ancient maison des champs – as a peaceful, uncluttered haven with five charming and light-filled bedrooms spread across two floors.
A sense of responsibility pervades your hosts' endeavours; water is recycled, meals are vegetarian using homegrown ingredients topped up with organic produce sourced within a 25km radius. Dishes showcase Middle Eastern flavours like za'atar and sumac. Try a vibrant shakshuka for breakfast, and Nepalese dhal, Vietnamese soup or a Thai salad for supper.
Two hectares of mature tree-filled gardens are dotted with quiet places to sit, contemplate and listen to birdsong or spread a blanket and picnic. And you're just a five-minute drive to the subway that whisks you into the centre of lively Lyon, once the Gallic capital.
