This modern barn conversion housed pigs and cows until a few years ago – it’s now a remote base to let go of the daily grind, breathe in lungfuls of country air and enjoy silence, except for the odd cow mooing in the background. While away hours reading in front of the wood-burner. When hunger sets in you can cook up feasts in the well-equipped kitchen.
There’s a rowing boat to take out on the lake (a minute's walk) or head right in in for a bracing, wild swim. Head out on long walks from the door (there's heated storage for muddy boots so you'll never have cold feet) or explore nearby Portumna Forest Park (11 miles) – ask Mary Rose for maps and recommendations.
When it’s shining, the sun streams onto the small patio - crack open the bottle of wine left out for you, watch it disappear and stay to gaze at the starry skies. Wander inside to sink into inviting beds in calming rooms.
