The garden-blessed Lodge is quiet, friendly, cleancut and smart. Family-run and with great staff - award-winning breakfasts too

Read guest comments

Pat fought hard to start his super little hotel amid the Regency mansions and embassies of leafy Ballsbridge. He won the neighbours over by promising to protect their peace and quiet and Aberdeen Lodge is indeed a refuge from the hullabaloo of Dublin city, yet the metro is close enough to catapult you back into the fray within minutes. Pat is a friendly hotelier, with a quiet deferential manner and his logo on the bathrobes, for whom nothing is too much trouble. His Irish staff have helpful charm, too. This modest Victorian villa has been cleverly converted into a variety of contemporary rooms with all mod cons and Egyptian cotton sheets. Candy-striped curtains remind you that the seafront is only 200 yards away and Biedermeier-style furniture adds a touch of luxury. Rooms at the back look over the good big garden onto a cricket pitch, an unusual sight in a country devoted to Gaelic football. Everything seems to run effortlessly and Pat's partner Ann's award-winning breakfast to piped classical music is deeply revitalising. Ideal for those wanting the best of both worlds in this fair city.

  • Head to the National Gallery for the collection of European & Irish fine art, just off the beautiful Merrion Square Park. Or, visit the Grand Library to see the amazing Book of Kells - illuminated illustrations of the Christian Gospels dating from 800AD.
  • Take a tour of the Guiness Storehouse to hear the tale of Ireland's most famous beer, then taste it up at the rooftop bar overlooking Dublin and the Wicklow Mountains. Or try the Teeling Whisky Distillery est. in 2015 - the 1st to open in over 125 yrs!
  • Other musts are the Kilmainham Gaol, Christchurch Cathedral, St Patrick's, St Stephen's Green, then grab a coffee at the MOMA before enjoying the exhibitions. Just a little further are Malahide Castle + fabulous mountain walking.
  • This is the best of both worlds - in the leafy suburb of Sandymount, just minutes from the city centre. It's well known for its beautiful long beach overlooked by a 19th-c Martello tower. A popular spot for fishing, kayaking, walks and views to Howth Head.
  • We're spoilt for choice with restaurants here in Sandymount. Or, lively Dublin is stuffed full of cafes, friendly pubs, cobbled streets, restaurants and shops and is a cradle for literature, music, art, craft and design - just absorb it and enjoy it!
  • As a family of dog lovers here at Aberdeen Lodge we are delighted to welcome your canine travelling companion to the lodge. Sandy and Robin our two Golden Retrievers are fantastic hosts and welcome four legged friends with open paws!
