This 17th-century fisherman's house couldn't be in a more peaceful village setting. Two wonderful bright apartments make up the top floor, while the owner Savina lives downstairs with her son. Savina is warm and inviting and has done everything to make guests feel at home; she’s cleverly combined the original charm of a beautiful old building with delightful modern touches. Beamed ceilings, light walls, chandeliers and original floors are interspersed with splashes of colour: abstract paintings, modern furnishings, bold bed linens. Kitchens are well equipped. Bedrooms are simple but nicely done, some with balconies overlooking the water. You really have it all because the views are spectacular – and the sunsets! Spend the day lazing on the beach below, or, if you're feeling active, get in a boat and out onto the lake. Romantic Varenna is a short walk from the village (take care, the roads are narrow), you can sit out on the waterfront or tramp the cobbled streets. Bellagio and Como are surprisingly close.
