This apartment has been restored with great care and attention to detail and could not be in a more privileged location. The main thoroughfare, the Corso Umberto, is a five-minute walk away as is Modica Alta where you’ll get a real feel for authentic local life.
Climb up steps to the side of the church and into a vine-covered walled courtyard; downstairs is the large foyer and the eat-in kitchen, and an exquisite staircase leads upstairs to the two bedrooms, a grand living space, a terrace and a balcony with views over the lower part of the city.
Modica centre is full of small restaurants and trattorias. You’re in one of the UNESCO towns of southern Sicily, with other cities notable for their Sicilian Baroque architecture such as Scicli, Noto and Ragusa within 45 minutes’ drive. Trains in Sicily are not the most regular but a direct service from Siracusa takes just under two hours.

Rosalie:
- Palazzetto Polara, the little palace, is the wing of the most famous aristocratic Palazzo in Modica, Palazzo Polara. To fully understand the importance of the Polara family one has to just look at its neighbor, San Giorgio Cathedral.
- San Giorgio Cathedral is considered par excellence the most important Baroque church in Sicily. From the balcony and the terrace of Palazzetto Polara behold both the spectacular view of the city of Modica and the Cathedral itself.
- In addition to the magnificent settings, Palazzetto Polara also offers concierge service as part of the rental fee.
- To reach Palazzetto Polara one takes the stairs to the left of San Giorgio Cathedral and from there steps into the wondrous charm of the private and enclosed spacious courtyard. The courtyard features an alfresco dining area with table and chairs.
- Known as the ''City of 100 bells and 100 churches'', Modica is a charming place to stay. Its architecture, food and scenic countryside make it a delightful place which visitors return to time and again.
- The town is a maze of narrow streets and steps which join the honey colored stone buildings of Upper Modica with the lower valley. Although much of Modica's ancient history was destroyed in an earthquake in 1693, it was rebuilt in the Baroque period.
