This big country house, built in traditional style, glows with fine paintings and polished antiques. Bedrooms have soft plaids and handmade chocolates; four-course dinners include garden produce. While Louise creates wonders in the polytunnel, Matthew produces marvels in the kitchen. Bring your own wine!
Set off on the winding road for Oban, known for its seafood and whisky. Or hop on the summer ferry from Gallanach to Kerrara, a sheep-strewn walkers' island blessed with wonderful tea gardens and a romantic ruin.
