Strathspey Lodge - Self-catering house in Highland
Strathspey Lodge, Duthil, PH23 3ND, Highland
Scotland,
Reino Unido
A little bit of Surrey hits the Highlands here, in a no-expense-spared house with lots of treats and masses of space indoors and out. Hike along the Strathspey Way – it's an hour or two to Aviemore, and then get the steam train back. Salmon fishing on the Spey will cost you £45 for a day's permit; borrow two bikes from the garage, return with muddy boots and dogs and there's a separate utility room for hosing down.
This is a family house, with a wonderful flow in the design. Children will love running around in circles from hall to living room, out the other door and back to the hall. Books are arranged into cookery, maps, guidebooks; board games and televisions are many and the wood-burning stove belts out the heat. It's beginning to sound a lot like Christmas but any family holiday will do, or a group of grown-up friends. French windows open onto a large terrace with a second dining table for summer eating facing the wonderful views.
The master bedroom has its own west-facing terrace for escaping with a sundowner, and you'll find everything from hot chocolate and marshmallows to prosecco and Cairngorm Brewery beer waiting for you.
