Welcome to a manoir with a fascinating history, and a delightful and attentive host. Jean-Philippe offers swimming robes and drinks by the pool on summer days, and leisurely breakfasts at the big table with eggs and cereals as well as local choices. Recently refreshed rooms (some in two-storey cottages in the grounds, some with kitchens, some with sea views) are colourfully co-ordinated with a traditional feel - stripes, patterns, French flourishes; little dishes of local fudge are a lovely extra. Beach, river and town are walkable but children (and dogs) will love romping in the garden with its many secret corners.
