You are sandwiched between vineyards, hot springs and the Ligurian coast. These two spacious stone houses in a lovely Piedmontese hilltop village can sleep 4-5 in the main house 'Romeo' and up to 6-7 more in 'Juliet'. Crunch over gravel and enter chunky walls. The kitchen is a delicious blend of vintage limed wood with state-of-the-art appliances; chop and chat at a central island, dine at an antique table.

You eat under a shady portico in the private courtyard, with a side dish of green valley views. In the large tiled living room, cushions are piled high on leather sofas and artworks dance on lime washed walls. More hotspots are an antique tiled breakfast room with sunny balcony and elegant bedrooms with antique wardrobes or a four-poster.

The local trattoria can deliver meals, and Alba (famous for truffles) and Genoa are close. If you are a painter you can use the studio here – a cool vaulted cellar. Join many walking and cycling paths.

Wonderful walks among Unesco Heritage hilltop vineyards, with terrific views. Well off the beaten track. Discover undiscovered Piedmont! Huge antique fairs every Sunday in nearby towns. Tennis in the village.
Superb Barbera, Dolcetto and Gavi wines direct from local growers. Staggeringly good value. E-bike tours of vineyards. Truffles and porcini in Autumn.
The heart of the Slow Food movement. It's a foodie's paradise. Best Negronis we've ever had! Heavenly food market in Acqui twice a week. And wonderful ice cream parlours and cake shops.
The famous spa town of Acqui Terme is just 10 minutes away. Only an hour's drive to the Mediterranean for a day-trip and fresh fish for lunch by the sea. Arenzano has a superb 23 kilometre coastal walk/cycle path.

"We had a really lovely stay at Casa degli Orsi. The house is beautifully furnished and has a lovely layout and feel. The view from the courtyard is amazing and our 18 month old daughter loved the visiting rabbits from next door! The owners were really helpful and there was a welcoming bottle of wine and toys for our daughter on arrival. Some of the local slow food restaurants are well worth a visit, as are some of the smaller local wineries, and we picked up some great food from the market in Acqui Terme. Overall we wish we could have stayed longer - a great place to relax and enjoy."

"Casa Degli Orsi is a beautiful villa in Orsara Bormida in Piedmont. It has obviously been lovingly restored. It combines all the charm and authenticity of an old Italian villa with a clean, modern and very functional interior. Peter Bear, the owner, provided a wealth of local information and readily agreed to us occupying a more comfortable room to make our stay more enjoyable. We would definitely recommend this property to anyone wanting to enjoy a very restful week in the splendour of the unspoilt Italian countryside, with all the amenities of Acqui Terme fifteen minutes away. "

"We wanted to tell you how much we appreciated your wonderful house! It is un bijou! We felt so well there that we spent much time in the courtyard, bathing in the sun, discussing, having nice lunches, etc etc. But specially we felt that the view of the valley, the vineyards, the village - is a very inspiring place, for thinking, for artists, for writing...... We appreciated every detail in the house, from the furniture to the décor, the nice kitchen, everything perfectly fitting to this Italian ‘Slow Food’ Piedmont. We found really good food and went very often to Acqui Terme where we loved the atmosphere and ate our daily ice cream there. This little town is a jewel!"
