Pentonwarra - Self-catering house in Cornwall
Trevone Bay, Padstow, PL28 8QY, Cornwall
England,
Reino Unido
On its own private headland between two beaches - a sandy one for swimming and surfing, the other for exploring rock pools - this is an enchanting spot. Explore the long stretches of coastal path in either direction, and walk the gentle 2-mile track to Padstow. Go barefoot all week and bask on the terrace overlooking Rocky Beach, where the sun shines from late morning until the invariably spectacular sunset - you're so close to the water you can leave your towel here or lower a basket down for a beach picnic.
Kids will love running around on the large level garden overlooking Trevone Bay while grown-ups light up the barbecue and enjoy a beer. Hunkering down in the house during a westerly gale or spring tide is quite something - you can watch the waves crashing over the rocks from your bed. It's not unusual for the front garden to fill with foam from the sea.
You'll find a cream tea waiting for you in the well-equipped kitchen.

Local points of interest from Vicky Gulland:

Vicky Gulland:
- Rocky Beach is right on Pentonwarra’s doorstep, and perfect for poking around in rock pools, sunning yourself on baking rocks, swimming in the natural swimming pool, and skimming stones. Or you can just watch everyone else from your private balcony!
- On the other side of Pentonwarra's private headland lies Trevone Bay, which offers perfect sandcastle-building sand and exciting Atlantic waves for swimming and body-boarding, and is watched over by lifeguards in the summer months.
- Ten minutes' walk away, in a clifftop field overlooking Trevone Bay on the other side, is the strange natural phenomenon of the Round Hole. When the tide is low, you can climb down it and walk through a natural arch to the rocks at the foot of the cliffs.
- From Pentonwarra's front door, a glorious stretch of north Cornwall’s coast path leads west to the perfect golden sands (and surf school) at Harlyn Bay and to the lighthouse at Trevose Head, and east to the Camel Estuary and Padstow beyond.
- The pretty fishing village of Padstow is less than an hour's walk away over lovely countryside (or a little further via the coast path). There you'll find excellent seafood (not least from Rick Stein), the Camel Trail, Prideaux Place, art, shops, and more.
- Within an hour's drive are Lanhydrock House, the Eden Project, the Lost Gardens of Heligan, Bodmin Moor and Bodmin Jail, the Bodmin and Wenford Steam Railway, as well as Port Isaac, Rock, and Newquay, to name just a few of the area's many attractions.
