A handsome house with medieval origins set in eight acres of grounds in between charming Abergavenny and Usk, near the Brecon Beacons

You stay in one of three first floor suites with their own private entrance: The Herbert, The Princess Margaret (she stayed here) and The Rees which has its own sitting room. All have en suite bathrooms with Faith In Nature treats, the means to make tea or coffee, chairs for reading or watching (one has a TV and the others have tablets for streaming) and fine views over the gardens and into the countryside.

You are given a voucher for breakfast, either for the Baffle Haus, half a mile away – try the Brekky Box – or The Retreat, a farm shop with a café and a deli, one mile away. The extensive grounds, a mix of formal gardens, woodlands and orchard are yours to explore and you can ask for a backpack and a travel rug for a picnic.

Set off on some wonderful walks in the Usk valley, or Goytre Wharf; puff up Skirrid Fawr, Sugar Loaf or Blorenge; tackle the Brecon Beacons with its views, lakes and waterfalls. Discover the history of the Hall on a booked tour.
