Château Igny - Bed & Breakfast in Cher
Allee du chateau, 18200 La Perche, Cher
Loire Valley,
Francia
Kerry's generous breakfast in the sunny conservatory will set you up for the day - there's yogurt, muesli, cheese, fruit and pastries. Explore the 23 hectares, walk the pilgrim's path, roam through ancient châteaux or simply laze the day away by the freshwater pool.
Stroll 5 minutes into the village for an apéritif at the bar in La Perche followed by dinner in the garden if it's sunny - 3 courses made with Kerry's homegrown herbs and veg and her delicious cheesecake. Walk 20 minutes to L'Etoile d'Urçay if you fancy dining out.
Head to the Forest of Tronçais (a 10-minute drive) for some of the purest air in Europe and 10,000 hectares of woodland. Come evening, curl-up in Igny's cosy beds with windows wide open to be serenaded by a chorus of owls and frogs.

Kerry O Donoghue:
- Ainay le chateau - a rare survivor of the 100 year war against the English, this chateau has been in the hands of one family since 1497. The family is the Colbert family (once finance minister to Louis X1V) and offers a fascinating story.
- Foret Troncais. The largest oak forest in Europe, offers wonderful walks or bike rides - a true nature experience and usually you have the forest for yourself. In Autumn there are special tours to hear and hopefully see the rutting deer.
- Herrison is a medieval village with a ruin of a Bourbon castle. Fom the castle ruin you have a wonderful view of steep medieval rooves looking over the winding river. The annual brocante is not to be missed
- Abbaye de Noirlac - a wonderfully romantic cistercian abbey on the banks of the river Cher. Full of history and offering many concerts, the abbey should not be missed.
- Brocantes of all shapes and sizes, not to be missed are Charenton, Herisson and Azay le chateau.
- Chateau Meillant, a magnificent, gothic chateau, sumptiously decorated and full of surprises
