Wake to birdsong and breakfast on the 'bolet': the enchanting wooden balcony. Bask by the pool, lunch by the barbecue, pick the rampant lavender. In a tiny hamlet surrounded by meadows, you'll find 'la France profonde'.
This Quercynois farmhouse has kept all its 18th-century features: stone fireplaces; soaring rafters; shuttered windows. You enter a big living space on the first floor (sofas, dressers, a piano you may play), and two quaint bedrooms side by side (one pleasingly Art Deco). From the kitchen: a small wooden stair leads to the top floor, with two beamed doubles and a splendid kids' dorm.
Hop in the car for Aynac (4km) for the butcher's, baker's, and an excellent deli-restaurant. Figeac, a half-hour drive, has a Saturday market and heaps of charm. The owners leave you their finest recommendations. Beautiful villages abound.

Local points of interest from Michael Stinton & Clova Stuart-Hamilton:
Puntos de interés sobre la región de
Michael Stinton & Clova Stuart-Hamilton:
- Prehistory: The famous Lascaux caves are to the north, and, to the south, the superlative Pêch Merle caves - a must for their ancient painting cycles. The region abounds with caves and pot-holes – don’t miss the underground river at the Gouffre de Padirac
- Walking: There are masses of footpaths in the Lot, including several from our house. The famous Grande Randonnée No 6 (GR6) actually passes through our hamlet and you may see pilgrims walking to Santiago as it is one of the camino routes!
- Sightseeing: Many family attractions include the “Parc Animalier” (Gramat), the Foret des Singes (Rocamadour), Reptiland (Martel), as well as several chateaux and markets. This is a great area for exploring on two wheels - so bring your bikes or hire them
- Romanesque Architecture: There are charming romanesque churches in most local villages, as well as fabulous abbeys with Tympanum and Mises au Tombeau sculptures at Conques, Carennac, Beaulieu, Souillac, Cahors and further afield, Perigueux and Angoulème.
- Music and Culture: Jazz and music festivals abound in the summer. They include the Sacred Music Festival at Rocamadour, the St. Céré Opera Festival and the Jazz Festivals at Souillac and Assier. The Blues Festival is at Cahors and African music at Cajarc.
- Ornithology: Our hill is rich in bird-life. Recently we have seen hoopoes, redstarts, red kites, sparrowhawks, owls, herons and tree creepers. Our resident nightingales in May give an incredible night-time serenade and we saw a great egret in October.
