This 12th-century rectory is set next to a Romanic church on Garrotxa’s volcanic western fringe, and it’s said that when the doors swung open again after a meticulous restoration the locals were moved to tears.
Roy and Goretti, a Scottish chef and a Catalan whisky expert, have revived chunky oak beams, made bed heads from doors, lamp stands from wine kegs. Leather armchairs sprawl by the fire and a garden terrace catches sunshine and birdsong. Rustic-chic bedrooms flaunt their history: patterned tiles, a stone basin, translucent pictures in tiny bathroom windows.
Breakfast on cheese, artisanal cured meats, fruit, cereals, home-made jams and marmalade; eggs as you like them on request too. For dinner, local beef with wild mushrooms, homegrown raspberries with hazelnut meringue, Catalan wine… a feast to savour after exploring spectacular volcanic landscapes (by foot or hot air balloon), or cycling the Via Verde to Olot and its surrounding valleys

"Roy and Goretti are great hosts making us so welcome and we thoroughly enjoyed our stopover! The rectory has been lovingly restored and still retains a lot of the original features like the cooking facilities enjoyed by the priests of the past, the wonderful uneven wood flooring in the huge entrance and the beams! We enjoyed sitting by the wood burning stove reading - so relaxing. Good food, comfortable rooms - enjoy it."

"Our stay at La Rectoria was one of the highlights of our trip. Clearly a labor of love, the building has been thoughtfully restored with respect for its history and also for guests’ comfort (they did not skimp on the mattresses). We loved being in the peaceful, quiet countryside with access to the via verde just down the driveway. Roy and Goretti are wonderful hosts, generous with suggestions and information about the region. The food was delicious—we ended up staying for dinner every night, and we loved Goretti’s wine recommendations as well. Would return in a heartbeat."

"Superb in every detail. The cuisine is excellent, the rooms clean, well-designed, airy and well-lit, the people friendly and interested in their guests. The location, right beside the Olot-Girona cycle track means peace, no traffic, and a great stop-off point for cyclists or walkers. We stayed for a weekend and will definitely return."

"I had been planning this weekend for ages, it had to be a really special present for my mother, and it was perfect! The house is stunning, the surroundings are spectacular, Roy, Goretti and Sylvester are charming and the food is to die for! In all, we had a brilliant time, and we cannot wait to repeat the experience! And, I have to say, that we were quite a difficult party: 7 grown ups, 2 babies, 1 toddler and 2 dogs!!!! Good job Lawsons!!!!"

"One of the highlights of our trip.
La Rectoria is a tastefully renovated and restored building and a very cozy place to stay. The bedrooms are tastefully done with modern amenities, there are several common areas to relax, each with it's own feel. A work down the the Via Verde takes you past fields of Pastel and through interesting small towns.
Roy and Goretti were the nicest of hosts and went out of their way to ensure we were comfortable and at home.
The dinner was optional ... but exceptional, so I can't recommend it enough! It was the highlight of the evening and was easily some of the best food we'd experienced during our trip.
I would stay again and I would stay for longer."

"We had a fantastic stay with Goretti and Roy at La Rectoria. This was due to a combination of an incredible setting, the fantastically finished La Rectoria, great food and above all, Goretti and Roy’s hospitality. We were made to feel instantly welcome and this continued throughout our stay.
