This old village house has been divided up into three rustic-chic boltholes, small but perfectly formed: 'Franca' on the ground floor with its private entrance, 'Alfredo' with a big view-filled terrace, and 'Pedreira', a compact studio with a tiny courtyard. Find hand-woven rugs on grey resin floors and a wonderful welcome basket that includes their own wines.
Pootle down the Douro on a traditional 'rabelo'. Visit Lamego with its amazing hilltop shrine. Plan a day trip to Porto, a 90-minute drive. For first class food and wines, head for 'Cacho d'Oiro' in Peso da Régua, 35km, and the rustically stylish 'Cais da Villa' in Vila Real, 25km. Wineries abound!
