Friendly Maki and Clive's higgledy-piggledy home is a charming, special place. Rooms are cosy, Clive's cookery courses are fun and delicious

The house is higgledy-piggledy and 200 years old, rustic and charming. It stands on the side of a hill on the edge of a small Moorish village in the Parque Natural, an hour from Córdoba and Granada, surrounded by farmland. Outside on sloping land are hammocks and picnic tables, figs, almonds, olives and vines, and a small upper terrace overlooking an inviting little pool.

Inside, old doors have become headboards and the cool downstairs bedroom (once the pantry!) now has twin beds and opens onto a terrace. All four bedrooms are simple, with delightful thick walls, modest beds, fluffy towels and characterful touches. In the sitting room are books, antiques and modern art.

Breakfast consists of all the usual suspects but you'll also get olive oil and tomate rallado, Spanish style. Clive cooks delicious dinners, often using their own vegetables, herbs and fruit, which are as Andalusian as possible.

"A wonderful holiday, perfect for us. Attractive finca, delightful setting, the real Spain for us. We'd been to Córdoba, Granada and Seville in the past and wanted to visit small towns and villages nearby, which were delightful. Clive and Maki are a remarkable couple and Cei makes it extra special. Clive's cooking is superb, gourmet without gourmet prices, using fresh local produce with the Spanish touch. Maki is artistic and creative in the rooms, lent us maps and advised on parking etc. We enjoyed their company on the terrace on a range of topics as evening fell. A very special holiday"

"This place was simply fabulous. I went with my mum to relax and to do the cooking course. Clive was a fantastic host, always ensuring that we had a sherry or wine in hand whilst cooking, and we learnt some great recipes from the area. Each evening, dinner was served on the terrace and was lovely and relaxed, whoever the other guests were. The area is great too, with lots of different things to see as this place is in the middle of a triangle of the great sites. Maki and Clive are really helpful with the advice too, knowing exactly where to park in the various cities, which villages to visit and where to buy fantastic olive oil etc. Highly recommend it."

"My wife stayed in this Finca for 4 nights. We like bed & breakfasts because of the personal contact with the owners and other guests. We were not disappointed at Finca Las Encinas. Clive and Maki are wonderful hosts. They create a relaxed vacation atmosphere. The Finca is a small building; the rooms are clean, good bed and good bathroom. At the first night we had dinner made by Clive at the Finca. It was wonderful. Clive used to be a professional chef and he combines this experience with his passion for local food. The ingredients are fresh (almost all from own garden) and taste was amazing. We ended up enjoying Clive's dinners every evening The Finca is 5 km from Iznajar, a typical Andalusian town. The area is great for walking or cycling. These activities are in the summer because of the heat best done in the early morning or evening. For day trips Granada and Cordoba are wonderful."

"Simply wonderful! Our 5 day stay relaxing be on believe.Charming rooms,alfreso dinning with staggeringly beautiful mountain views,fabulous gourment food every day. My meals must be gluten free,Chef Clive surpassed my needs! We took a Tapas cooking class it was wonderful, delicious recipes. Chef Clive's teaching methods and humor put you at ease (along with the great wine) we learned so much. Clive and Maki and their son Cei were superb hosts-kind-generous and helpful, they truly enriched are lives. We didn't want to leave and so look forward to returning."

"Had a fantastic stay. Clive and Maki are perfect hosts, they know the surrounding region of Andalucia very well and we were not short of things to do in the area.Even their two dogs did their fair share in accommodating us by accompanying us on a hike. Would really recommend eating in the evenings there as Clive is a great cook who uses local ingredients very well. Breakfasts were out-of-this-world too."

"We spent a wonderful five days here - feeling very relaxed and at home almost immediately we arrived. Maki and Clive are great hosts - friendly and very helpful but not at all intrusive and their little boy kept our girls amused for hours! The food was excellent - breakfast was a feast and dinner always delicious - local, often home grown, ingredients beautifully prepared."
